Managing Your Puzzles

The PuzzleMe dashboard is the first screen you see after logging in. It is where you organize and manage your puzzles and puzzle series.

Tip: Hover your mouse pointer over any icon on the dashboard to see its name or function.

The dashboard contains several sections:

Dashboard header

The header is the top section of the dashboard and contains:

  1. Announcements: Located in the orange section at the very top. Check here for updates about PuzzleMe, like new features and special offers.
  2. New Series button: Click this green button labeled "New Series" in the top-right to create a new puzzle series. This will open the create series dialog box.
  3. New Game button: Click this green button labeled "New Game" in the top-right to go to the puzzle type selection page and create a new puzzle.
  4. User Name: Your PuzzleMe account display name is shown in the top-right. Click your username to see the Logout option.
  5. Current series name: The name of the series you are currently viewing is displayed prominently in the header, for example "Dashboard for Series: Crossword".

Series Controls

Series controls

The series controls are located below the header and allow you to manage the current series.

  1. Select series: Use the "Series" dropdown menu to choose and switch to a different series. The currently selected series is displayed to the right of the "Series" label, for example "Default".
  2. Settings: Click the Settings icon (gear icon) to open the series-level settings page. Use this to modify general settings that apply to the entire series.
  3. Preview: Click the Preview icon (eye icon) to see a preview of how the series might appear in a series picker on different devices.
  4. Publish: Click the Publish icon (</> icon) to open the Publish page for the current series. This provides options for embedding or linking to the series.
  5. Analytics: Click the Analytics icon (chart icon) to open the analytics page for the current series. Here you can view data for all puzzles within the selected series.
  6. Design: Click the Design icon (paintbrush icon) to open the design settings for the series. This allows you to customize the visual design of specific game types within the series. A modal will open allowing you to select which game type you want to theme.
  7. Rename: Click the Rename icon (document icon) to open the Rename Series modal. Here you can change the display name of the current series. The series code (used for embedding) cannot be changed.
  8. Delete: Click the Delete icon (trash can icon) to open the series deletion dialog box. Note: You cannot delete a series that contains puzzles. You must delete all puzzles in the series first.

Listing Controls

Listing controls

The listing controls are below the series controls and above the puzzle list. They help you manage how puzzles are displayed.

  1. Search box: Use the search bar to find puzzles within the current series by title or slug.
  2. Number of entries: If a series contains more than 30 puzzles, scroll down to the end of the page and click on Show All button, this will add a dropdown menu above the puzzle listing to control how many puzzles are shown at once. Options include 10, 25, 50, and 100 puzzles per page.
  3. Sorting Controls: Click the column headers Title & Author, Publish Time (UTC), or Loads to sort the puzzle list by that column. The default sort is by Publish Time (UTC), showing the latest published puzzles first. Click the header again to reverse the sort order.
  4. Display time zone: "All times are in the UTC timezone" is displayed above the column headers. This indicates that all publish times shown are in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time).

Puzzle Details

Each puzzle in the list has a details section showing key information and actions.

For each puzzle, you will see the following details:

  1. Puzzle icon: The thumbnail image set for the puzzle. This icon is also used in the date picker.
  2. Puzzle title: The title you gave to the puzzle.
  3. Puzzle contents overview: A summary of the puzzle's content. This varies by puzzle type:
    • Crosswords, Codeword, Kriss Kross, Word Search: Shows the grid size (e.g., 9x9 grid) and the number of words/clues.
    • Quiz: Shows the number of questions.
    • Sudoku, Picdoku, Wordoku: Shows the grid size (e.g., 9x9 grid).
    • Word Flower: Shows the central letter, outer letters, and the number of words.
  4. Author name: The author name you set for the puzzle.
  5. Slug: The unique ID of the puzzle.
  6. Quick Edit: A "Quick Edit" link appears below the slug. Clicking this opens a small modal to quickly modify basic puzzle settings like the title, author, and publish date/time.
  7. Clone: A "Clone" link appears below the slug. Clicking this will create a duplicate copy of the puzzle.
  8. Publish date and time: The scheduled publish date and time for the puzzle, shown in UTC. The status (e.g., "Unpublished") is also shown here.
  9. Loads count: The total number of times the puzzle has been loaded by solvers.
  10. Actions: A set of icons providing quick actions for the puzzle:
    • Edit grid & clues: (Grid icon) - For grid-based games (like Crossword), this opens the grid editor.
    • Edit game: (Pencil icon) - Opens the main game editor/creator form for the puzzle, where you can change content, add messaging, configure scoring, and other settings.
    • Preview: (Eye icon) - Opens a preview of the puzzle in the solver interface, showing how it will look on different device layouts.
    • Publish: (</> icon) - Opens the Publish page for the puzzle, where you can get embed code or a direct link to the specific puzzle.
    • Analytics: (Chart icon) - Opens the analytics page for this specific puzzle.
    • Delete: (Trash can icon) - Opens the delete confirmation dialog to permanently delete the puzzle.

By understanding and using the dashboard and its various controls, you can effectively manage all your puzzles and series within PuzzleMe.
