Best practices
Learn best practices for successful PuzzleMe implementation and launch.
Here are some best practices that will help you get the most out of your PuzzleMe implementation.
1. Branding and customization
Use the series or puzzle branding options to apply your brand's own fonts, colors, and masthead to the puzzles. Consistent branding ensures your puzzles match your website's look and feel, and make it seem native to your platform.
- Start with one of 7 preset themes (available at both series and puzzle levels)
- Use Series branding to customize fonts, colors, and masthead for all puzzles in a series.
- Use Individual puzzle branding to customize specific puzzles.
2. User messaging
Use the messaging features in PuzzleMe to communicate with players.
- Start experience: Welcome players and explain the game if needed.
- Completion experience: Deepen engagement by directing players to other games or articles on your site after finishing a game.
- Pause experience: Provide a light-hearted message to solvers and encourage them to come back if they pause a game.
3. Website integration
Drive traffic to the games using your website/app menu and footer. This also brings SEO benefits to your games by improving discoverability and search rankings.
- Navigation Menu: Add puzzles to your main navigation.
- Footer Links: Include puzzle links in your site footer.
- Prominent Placement: Include puzzle links on your home page or landing page.
- Internal Linking: Link to puzzles from relevant articles.
4. Launch promotion
Plan to announce and promote the puzzles' launch across your channels:
- Articles: Write about your new puzzle feature.
- Newsletters: Announce to your email subscribers.
- Social Media: Share on your social platforms.
- Press Releases: Consider media outreach for major launches.
5. User feedback
Set up a feedback loop to get feedback from puzzle solvers. Solvers are great idea generators and can help you improve future puzzle content. Asking for feedback also shows them that you take their input seriously.
- Contact Form: This is a great way for solvers to provide qualititative or quantitative feedback. You can easily embed a Google form or similar widget in the completion message of the game.
- Email Address: Provide an email adddress so that solvers can reach out to you directly.
6. Scheduling puzzles
Plan in advance to ensure a proper content generation and management process.
- Content Calendar: Plan regular puzzle releases and communicate it clearly to solvers. Ensure enough puzzles are planned for ongoing engagement.
- Launch Stock: Have a small stock of puzzles available at launch.
- Pre-loading: Pre-load puzzles and set their publication times using scheduled publication.
- Specials: Consider running special thematic puzzles around special occasions in your audience's calendar.
7. Security and domain settings
Ensure you enter at least the following series settings for each series (available on paid plans only)
- Allowed domains - This setting ensures that games cannot be embedded except on your intended site(s).
- Series landing page - This setting sets the landing page for your puzzle collection.
- X/Twitter Handle - This setting is required if social sharing is enabled.
8. Puzzle backup and version management
Once you save a puzzle, it cannot be reverted to a previous version. Save carefully and create backups before making significant changes by cloning the puzzle.
