Creating Your First Puzzle
Create your first puzzle with PuzzleMe™.
Now that your account is set up, you're ready to create your first puzzle. In the steps below, we'll show you how to create a 10-word Crossword.
Steps
As you move through this tutorial, you'll find several elements of the interface that we haven't mentioned here. That's for a good reason: this tutorial is designed to show you how to get a fully functioning puzzle with minimal effort.
In Preparation
Crosswords often center around a theme. Before we start, think of a theme (for example: cars, history, geography, or films), and write down 10 words related to it!
Step 1: Creating a Crossword
On the PuzzleMe Dashboard, go to the Navigation Bar and click on New Game.
On the New Game page, you can see the different kinds of puzzles that can be created through PuzzleMe. Click on Crossword.
Step 2: Adding Words
You are now on the Create Crossword page. In the Game title field, enter a title of your choice for your crossword.
Scroll down to the Crossword entries section, then type your 10 words.
Click the Create Game button. A pop-up will appear while PuzzleMe generates an optimal grid layout for your crossword.
Step 3: Adding Clues
Click on the Clues dropdown in the Navigation Bar, then select Edit Clues.
In the Clue Panel on the right side of the crossword, select a word.
In the Edit Clue pop-up modal, click on the Clue Suggestions tab.
Search and select an appropriate clue, then click the Save button at the bottom of the popup.
Repeat steps (7) to (9) for all your words.
Once you've added all your clues, click on Save Puzzle in the Navigation Bar.
Step 4: Preview and Publish
- Click Preview.
This will take you to the Preview page, where you can see how your crossword looks and works on different devices.
If you're satisfied with the preview, click the Publish button on the Preview page's top bar.
This opens the Publish page, where you can choose how to share your puzzle (for example, via an embed code or a direct link).
You've successfully created your first puzzle! 🎉
Your crossword is now ready to be shared with others. You can always come back to edit it later from your dashboard.
