Objective

Understand the settings available for puzzle types

This page covers all the settings available for puzzle types.

Series-Level Management

Some puzzle-specific settings can now be managed at both the individual puzzle level (as described in this document) and at the series level. Series-level settings provide a way to ensure consistency across all puzzles of the same type within a series.

When a setting is configured both at the series level and the individual puzzle level, the individual puzzle setting takes precedence.

Publication settings

These settings are available for all puzzle types.

Publication date and time

This setting is available for all puzzle types.

Set when your puzzle becomes available to solvers. You can schedule puzzles to be published at a specific date and time in the future.

Behavior with different embedding methods:

  • Direct embedding: Visitors will see a 404 error if they try to access the puzzle before the scheduled publication time
  • Series picker: The puzzle will automatically become visible in the series picker at the scheduled publication time

Timezone

Select the timezone for your publication date and time. This ensures your puzzle publishes at the correct local time for your target audience.

Dashboard display

The dashboard automatically converts all publication times to UTC for display. Contact us if you'd like the dashboard to show times in your local timezone instead.

Quiz

Tags (separate with spaces): The tags typed here are used for assigning puzzle classification and metadata. For quizzes, each question can be assigned one or more comma-separated tags. The tags field in this panel will contain the tag-to-count specification, which decides the number of questions per tag that will appear in the quiz. The tag-to-count specification must be provided in the following format: <tag name>=<number of questions>

For detailed information about tag management, randomization, and question banks, see the advanced Quiz options documentation.
