How can I download a Crossword puzzle in .puz format?
Unfortunately, exporting a puzzle file in the .puz format is not supported. There are two main reasons for this. First, exporting .puz files is technically challenging, as crosswords often include complex features that are difficult to preserve while maintaining the puzzle’s integrity. Second, the puzzle content may be proprietary, and exporting it in .puz format could infringe on intellectual property rights.
However, we do support exporting the puzzle’s contents in a CSV format.
Are uploaded puzzles public?
Puzzles you upload to the PuzzleMe Dashboard remain private. They only become public when you choose to publish them. Moreover, the way you publish determines how widely your puzzle is shared. Learn more about publishing options here.
I uploaded my puzzle file in the recommended import format, but the import failed.
We’re sorry about this. Please send us the puzzle file that failed to import. We will investigate the issue and get back to you as soon as possible.
How can I display row and column numbers outside the grid?
PuzzleMe allows you to display row and column numbers outside the grid through a setting in the Dashboard. This feature is available to partners on the Professional and Enterprise plans.
How do I enable/disable the "You're close. Some letters are incorrect." popup?
This popup is controlled by the reveal setting in your puzzle's scoring configuration.
To enable/disable the popup:
- Go to your puzzle's settings → "Scoring" section
- Enable/disable the "Reveal" setting
When disabled, players see no error feedback - the screen remains unchanged until all answers are correct.
For more details about scoring settings, see the scoring documentation.
How do I hide answers in my puzzle?
To prevent players from seeing crossword answers, you have several options:
Disable Reveal Features: In the Scoring settings, you can disable reveal options that allow players to show individual letters, words, or the entire solution.
Enable Contest Mode: Contest mode completely disables all help features including reveals, hints, and answer checking. This is the most secure option for competitive puzzles. Learn more about contest mode.
Disable Hint Features: Remove hint functionality that provides assistance to players during gameplay.
These settings can be found in the puzzle editor under the Scoring tab.
