Contest Mode vs Non Contest Mode
In games without contest mode:
- If enabled, the name/email/mobile collection form is shown to solvers before they start solving the puzzle.
- There is no explicit "Submit" button. The puzzle is marked as solved when all the answers have been found/revealed.
- It is possible for solvers to clear their progress and restart the puzzle.
- The solving time is not calculated at the server end, but only at the uses's browser. Hence, the metric can be a little unreliable.
For these reasons, we do not recommend conducting a puzzle contest without contest mode. If you would stilllike to use these puzzles in a contest/event, you can increase the difficulty of the puzzles and reduce help options available to the solvers.
WordroW
One way to modify the experience is to enable or disable dictionary support. If you disable the dictionary, proper nouns, abbreviations and typos will be accepted as valid attempts as well, thus limiting feedback to the solvers. You can disable the dictionary via the Settings tab in the creator form.
Word Flower
You can disable the Reveal option from the Scoring tab in the creator form. This would ensure that users would have to find all the words before a puzzle can be marked as solved.
Another way to increase the difficulty is to prevent or allow repeatable letters, via the Content tab in the creator form. Please note that you might have to add or remove words from the puzzle to account for this setting.
Word Search
You can disable the Hints and Reveal option from the Scoring tab.
Kriss Kross
You can disable Reveal. Check and Error Check options for a kriss kross puzzle from the Scoring tab.
