Points to Remember

Objective

Learn the essential steps you need to follow for organizing a puzzle contest

Please go through these checklist carefully before you plan a puzzle contest.

Before the contest

  1. Ensure that the puzzle is in contest mode. If contest mode is not supported, ensure that all the help options are disabled.
  2. Ensure that a robust user identification method is implemented for the puzzles.
  • If you have implemented UID, please ensure that the UID is being passed properly to the iframe.
  • If you have not implemented UID, ensure that the appropriate name/email/mobile collection parameters are added in the iframe embed code, or the puzzle URL.
    Very Important

Please manually verify that the name/email/mobile etc. parameters or the UID are present in your puzzle embed URL. If you conduct the contest without these parameters enabled, Amuse Labs will not be able to help you recover the identities of your solvers.

  1. Ensure that you are embedding or sharing a single puzzle, and not a puzzle picker. If you share a puzzle picker, users might be able to solve the other puzzles in your account too.
  2. Ensure that the puzzle is published in PuzzleMe CMS, before your solvers access it. If your solvers access the puzzle before its publish time, they would see an error message. Please note that the publish time in your PuzzleMe dashboard is denoted in UTC time zone. Kindly adjust for your time zone accordingly.
  3. If you have a large audience size, it is recommended to publish a practice puzzle on your website. This would help familiarize your audience with the puzzle player interface, as well as detect any potential technical problems in advance.

During the contest

  1. Login to your account and check the Play by Play section. Ideally, a few plays must have been registered in the table. If you are not seeing any plays, please re check the puzzle settings and the embed code/puzzle link.

After the contest

  1. You might notice a small difference in server time and on screen time for some plays. This can happen due to network delays and is normal.
  2. For all contest mode puzzles, please only use the server time for scoring.
  3. It is recommended that you download the plays data from the dashboard immediately after the contest has been closed. This will ensure that any late submissions are not considered for scoring. If you download the data at a later time, you will have to manually filter out submissions occurring after the deadline.
