What is a Marching Bands puzzle?

Marching Bands is a crossword variant played on a blockless, square grid. Every puzzle has two sets of clues: rows, which run straight across the grid, and bands, concentric rings that circle the grid from the outer edge inward.

Each row and each band contains multiple answers placed back-to-back, with a separate clue for each. There are no black squares or indicators marking where one answer ends and the next begins, so solvers have to work out the word breaks themselves from the crossing letters in the other direction.

Solvers can switch between a Rows clue list and a Bands clue list and solve in whichever order they prefer — selecting a clue highlights the matching cells in the grid. In the Bands list, each clue is marked with a color swatch, matching that band's color in the grid.
