Series settings

Objective

Learn about the different settings and messaging options available for a series and how to manage them using the Series Settings editor.

Some features listed on this page are only available on our Partner plans.

PuzzleMe™ allows you to set and update several commonly used settings and customize messaging for all the puzzles in the given series. We recommend not mixing different game types within a single series. Each series should contain only one game type, as the settings you configure will apply to all puzzles in that series. You can read more about series here.

How series settings work

Series settings are organized into several main sections that control different aspects of your puzzle experience:

All settings apply to every puzzle within the series, so configure them once and they'll affect all puzzles in that series.

Series defaults in individual puzzles

Several series-level settings—including Start, Pause, and Completion experiences, scoring, target time, and assist features—can also be overridden for individual puzzles. Where this applies, the puzzle editor shows a "Use series defaults" toggle, enabled by default, so the puzzle automatically follows what you've configured here. Turn it off on a specific puzzle to customize that setting just for that puzzle. See the game settings overview for how this looks from the puzzle-editing side.

Some puzzle-specific settings (like word lengths in clues or the clue list display) work a little differently: there's no toggle, but if you set a value for the individual puzzle, it takes precedence over the series-level value.

To modify the settings and messaging,

  1. Select the series you wish to modify the settings for and then click on "Settings":
  1. If you had previously set a value for a setting, it will show up prefilled in the settings fields. If you want to reset all the settings to their default value, click on the "Reset" button at the bottom right of the page.
Warning

Use the "Reset Settings" button very carefully. If you had previously set some custom settings, and accidentally reset them, we will not be able to restore your custom settings. This only affects custom settings set by you, via the series settings editor. Any other settings set by us will not be affected.

  1. Update the values in the fields, and then click on the green "Save" button at the bottom right of the page.
