2. Research Fellowships
Research fellowships are 1 or 2-year fellowships for recently graduated students who are looking to bolster their research or software engineering resume by working on hard technical problems that lead to new and innovative products. These are some of the areas in which such fellowships may be awarded:
– Web application programming with Java, Javascript and SQL
– NLP/AI and data mining experience for mining text
– Software engineering and cloud infrastructure tools

Business development manager
About the role: You will be responsible for building up new business development opportunities and closing deals with our partners and customers.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage and own inbound leads coming via various channels
- Continuously build the sales pipeline by identifying new sales opportunities in current and new markets/verticals
- Drive the BD pipeline, working through the leads, reaching out, prospecting & qualifying potential customers
- Prepare sales proposals
- Maintain communication and follow through with prospective customers until deal closure
- Work with internal teams to develop sales pitches, collateral, templates, etc.
- Develop a strong understanding of the product to deliver high quality demos
- Execute the BD process to deliver on overall business goals
Key skills/attributes:
- At least 2 years of experience in business development, preferably in B2B/SaaS technology firms
- Resourceful, detail-oriented, highly organised, hands-on and enthusiastic about growing a startup business
- Learning mindset and ability to adapt to changing circumstances in a startup environment
- Excellent communication skills, ability to present and negotiate with international customers
- Knowledge of multiple languages would be a plus
- International exposure would be a plus
- A personal passion for fun puzzles and smart games is a plus
Senior infrastructure/DevOps engineer
About the Role: You will take complete responsibility for the IT infrastructure of the highly available PuzzleMe(TM) platform, including developing, scaling, and maintaining it for international customers in all time zones.
Desired skill-sets include the following.
- A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience or a Ph.D. is a must for this position
- Experience in building high availability, secure web services using cloud hosting services such as Google Cloud/AWS/Linode, etc.
- Unix expertise with troubleshooting and debugging skills at the system level (/proc, strace/dtrace, auditd, etc.)
- Experience in tuning applications such as node balancers, Tomcat, MySQL, and NodeJS Servers for performance and high availability.
- Experience setting up and managing services using docker containers.
- Experience setting up, tuning monitoring, and alerting using tools like Zabbix and OpsGenie.
- Experience in managing the security of web server infrastructure (pen testing is a plus)
- Experience with release management with CI/CD tools.
- High level of personal responsibility.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
Full-stack engineer
This role is for someone who is dynamic and enjoys wearing many hats, and working on whatever is most important at the moment.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop new features and infrastructure in support of rapidly emerging business and project requirements
- Take responsibility for new projects from conceptualization to deployment
- Exhibit patience in incremental development approaches to suit the business needs and in incorporating peer review comments
- Find creative solutions to problems that are reasonable and clean
- Ensure application performance, uptime, and scale, maintaining high standards of code quality and thoughtful application design
Key skills/attributes:
- A minimum of 2 years experience or a Ph.D. is a must for this position
- Web development including Typescript/Javascript/jQuery and other web-dev frameworks, HTML/CSS, responsive web, Java and JSP
- Experience writing clean code that is maintainable and scalable
- Managing a high-performance relational database with MySQL
Basic scripting and automation for building systems - Native app/Webview development for Android and iOS is an optional plus.
- Excellent debugging and performance optimization skills
- Appreciation for good design and user experience
- Unit and integration testing experience
Frontend engineer
This role is for someone who is dynamic, has a keen sense for design, enjoys building consumer facing user interfaces, good at quick prototyping as well as passionate about building scalable frontend software. Passion for puzzles and games, and making them fun is a plus. Desired skill sets include the following. (You are not required to have each of these skills when you join, but you will have all of them after you join us!)
Key responsibilities:
- Architect new UI experiences and frontend infrastructure in support of rapidly emerging business and project requirements
- Build consumer grade interfaces that are used by millions of people with smooth user interactions that work across browsers
- Quickly build prototypes to demonstrate new features
- Exhibit patience with incremental development approaches to suit the business needs and in incorporating peer review comments
- Find creative and clean solutions to problems and bring in original ideas
Key skills/attributes:
- A minimum of 2 years experience (waived for Ph.D.s) is a must for this position
- Web development in any language or framework (Preferred: Typescript/Javascript/jQuery, Bootstrap and other web-dev frameworks), HTML/CSS, responsive web. Experience with frameworks like React and Angular is useful but not essential.
- Expertise in CSS, SCSS, CSS hierarchy specificity, SVGs (inlining), animations with CSS and JS, and media queries.
- Excellent debugging and performance optimization (e.g. Javascript profiling) skills
- Experience with conducting user studies and drawing insights from it
- Keen sense for design of a consumer product and a user-first mindset
- Experience writing clean code that is maintainable and scalable
- Unit and integration testing experience
- Native app/webview development for Android and iOS is an optional plus.
