Crossword Constructor

Daniel Mrazik

Dan has always had an interest in crossword puzzles. On the off chance there was an empty or unfinished one at a coffee shop or in the seatback pocket of an airplane, he would gladly have a go. But in 2020, his interest found a new level as he had the time to complete four or five puzzles a day. Eventually, this passion led to the desire to construct grids and craft clues himself. Ever since, he has regularly released his own puzzles – first to some friends and family and now to anyone who might want to dabble.

Dan’s most recent project Crosswoods invites solvers to get lost in the words – to sit back, relax, and savor the adventure of solving a crossword.

When he’s not working on the next puzzle, Dan enjoys exploring Philadelphia, finding new places to eat, running around the city, and spending time with friends and family, his original supporters.

What’s the most memorable puzzle you’ve ever created?

My wife (who is my crossword editor) and I got married in 2024. For our wedding Save-the-Dates, I made a crossword puzzle that, when solved, provided the date, time, and location of our festivities. I remember getting a text that said, “Best save the date ever!” Don’t worry–the answer key was inside the card for those less inclined to solve a puzzle. We did seal it shut though so there were no accidental reveals.

What’s your all time favourite crossword clue?

I’ve told a lot of people about Erik Agard’s clue: A bit of pop culture? The answer is “dad joke.”

For me, the clue writing is my favorite part so I always hope many of mine seem clever to solvers. A recent one I enjoyed writing that also had a fun answer was: Photo trick digitally created? The answer is “bunny ears.”

What’s the best thing about PuzzleMe?

PuzzleMe provides the best representation of my puzzles to solvers. The interface, functionality, and usability make it super simple to share a quality crosswording experience with the world.
