Dear Reader,

You’re reading the monthly newsletter from Amuse Labs, covering the world of puzzles, publishing, and updates to PuzzleMe™, the most advanced digital platform for smart games.

Meet Slide: The newest game format on PuzzleMe

Remember that popular childhood puzzle where you had to reorder numbered tiles in a grid? PuzzleMe Slide brings you this format as an interactive, mobile-friendly puzzle with numbers, or even images. Solvers move pieces one space at a time until the sequence is restored.

You can create your own Slide puzzle with any number of pieces and opt for a classic numbered grid, an image from our curated gallery, or your own artwork. This language-agnostic puzzle experience is ideal for diversifying your interactive content and engaging a wide audience.

From Daily Habit to Prime Time: Wordle Hits the TV Screen

NBC has secured the rights to air a televised version of Wordle, which is scheduled to premiere in 2027. The project has major star power, with Savannah Guthrie set to host and late-night icon Jimmy Fallon co-producing the series with Universal Television Alternative Studio and The New York Times.

While the game is played individually, the daily ritual of sharing the iconic green-yellow emoji grids transformed a solitary activity into a surprisingly social experience. As Jonathan Knight, head of Games at NYT explains, “Wordle is already a social and shared experience. People don’t just play it, they talk about it, compare results and solve together. That gave us a strong foundation to think about how it might translate into a game show, where that social experience can play out on screen.”

Passionate word puzzle fans can already apply to be contestants here!

How To Build a Social Ritual in Slack

When a company scales rapidly from 150 to 500 employees working remotely, it’s challenging to build a common culture using standard corporate communications. Sophia Pilos Narron, the internal communications lead at AI-native consultancy CreateFuture, saw that the company had lost the team-building benefits of the casual banter of a physical office. After noticing team members naturally sharing their daily Wordle stats on Slack channels, she did some digging and decided to build a social ritual entirely around that behavior, using custom WordroW puzzles.

“It gives people a common activity to talk about. If you’re meeting someone new at the company, it’s like talking about the weather: Have you done the WordroW today? How did you do?

Instead of playing a global game with the rest of the world, employees get a puzzle experience built just for them. It creates a “did you do today’s puzzle?” moment between remote colleagues who may have never met before. Stats on Slack threads spur friendly competition over first or second-guess wins and drive reaction emojis. Read the full interview with Sophia here.

      From the Crossworld

The Westwords tournament is returning on Sunday, June 14, in Berkeley, California, with an online Twitch stream available for virtual solvers. Brand new to the tournament lineup this year is an in-person pairs solving division, giving partners a chance to team up live at the venue. Crossword enthusiasts and competitive solvers can learn more about the event or secure their spots by signing up.

The independent crossword community continues to demonstrate the power of puzzles for charitable causes with the launch of Midis for Minnesota. This newly released indie charity puzzle pack features 13 midi crosswords constructed by an array of talented puzzle minds, with 100% of the proceeds going to help migrant families. The constructor team has collectively had hundreds of crosswords published by various newspapers and indie outlets. To access the pack, simply donate to a mutual aid organization and submit proof of your donation to them. Learn more here.

      PuzzleMe Spotlight

A selection of updates from PuzzleMe, the most advanced digital platform for word and logic games

      1. Deepen player loyalty with Streaks and more

PuzzleMe has taken the post-game experience up a notch by enabling creators to display key solving metrics directly within the completion pop-up window. When configured, players can instantly view comprehensive stats about their puzzle-solving history as soon as they finish a game.

This gives solvers immediate feedback about their personal progress and benchmarks, making their daily puzzle routine feel more rewarding. Publishers can use this feature to foster friendly competition, encourage self-improvement, and boost long-term retention by giving players a reason to return to solve a puzzle every day. Get in touch to learn more about enabling this feature.

      2. Style your puzzles with Preset Themes

Achieving a polished and consistent look across all your digital games has never been faster. You can now access a curated selection of Preset Themes on the PuzzleMe Branding page, allowing you to apply professional color palettes and typography to your puzzles in a single click.

Whether you manage daily games for a news outlet or coordinate internal quizzes for corporate training, Preset Themes can save you production time. The platform has always given you the flexibility to customize design elements to match your brand. Now, if you want, all you have to do is pick a professionally-designed look and hit ‘Publish’!

      3. Schrödinger Crosswords

Constructing mind-bending grids with native support for Schrödinger crosswords is easy with PuzzleMe. Named after the famous quantum physics thought experiment, these puzzles feature one or more cells that intentionally accept two entirely different entries depending on the solver’s perspective (such as a single entry accepting both “CLINTON” and “BOBDOLE” in the famous 1996 presidential election puzzle). Creators don’t need complex or awkward workarounds to create these dual-solution marvels.

Constructors simply input alternative options separated by a forward slash. The PuzzleMe platform handles all the underlying logic, automatically validating either answer as correct during gameplay. Upon completion, the grid dynamically flashes between the alternate entries as a delightful visual reveal for your solvers.

      Puzzle of the Month

Our pick for this month is “Do West Fest Snoopy Crossword” by Franci Dimitrovska. This crossword breaks away from standard grid constraints by using void and shaded cells to form a cute, recognizable image of everyone’s favorite cartoon beagle. It is a lovely example of how visual grid customizations can turn a puzzle into an immediate, shareable fan favorite!
